Caffine Caffiene Cafine Cafeine Cafiene

Why is this word so hard to spell!?

It’s the most used drug in the world, but for some reason they had to give it the hardest name to spell (or maybe english is just overly complicated).

Caffeine (correct spelling) is actually misspelled a LOT. So don’t feel bad.

The Origin of the Word

Caffeine and coffee, are both derived from the Arabic word qahweh. It is pronounced “kah veh” in Turkish.

The origins of the words reflect how coffee spread into Europe via Arabia and Turkey from northeast Africa.

In the 6th century coffee trees were cultivated in Africa. It wasn’t until the 17th century when coffee began to be popular in Europe. By the end of the 18th century, plantations had been established in Indonesia and the West Indies. Finally, by the 20th century, coffee had become the biggest cash crop on earth. Amazing how far and wide coffee has spread and become universally used.
