Red Bull Information
The original Red Bull energy drink originated in Thailand from a company called TC Pharmaceutical. They sold it under the Thai name 'Krating Daeng'. Krating Daeng was based on an earlier energy drink the was popular in Japan and was introduced to Thailand.
An Austrian entrepreneur , Dietrich Mateschitz, discovered the drink in 1982 while he was visiting Thailand (He found it was a great cure for jet lag). Mateschitz founded Red Bull GmbH in 1987, and launched the “Austrian” version of Krating Daeng, Red Bull, which wasn’t as sweet as the original Thai version.
From that start, Red Bull continued to grow its forign markets. It entered the United States, via California in 1997. It currently controls half the U.S. energy drink market.
The 2 founders of Red Bull were both listed as Billionaires by Forbes in 2006. Chaleo Yoovidhya is #292, and Dietrich Mateschitz is #317. Not too bad for selling some super caffeinated sugar water.
Sugar-free Red Bull was released in 2003.
