MateÃÅ is a tea drink prepared from the leaves of the yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis) tree. The plant is native to the Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay regions of South America.

The caffeine levels of MateÃÅ leaves range between 0.9% - 2.2% of a leaf's dry weight. Young leafs have naturally higher concentrations of caffeine and the caffeine levels diminish with older leaves.

The drink is traditionally prepared with 40-50g of leaves, and contains about 25 mg of caffeine per 5 oz.
